Air Abrasion

Air abrasion involves the cutting of tooth tissue by aluminium oxide particles propelled by compressed air or gas at high speed towards the tooth’s surface. Air abrasion offers the possibility of “drill-free” dentistry for certain cavities with a much lower requirement for local anaesthesia.

The increase in adhesive dentistry has meant that air abrasion has become an increasingly useful addition to the modern dental armamentarium, producing conservative cavities and dramatically increasing bond strength.
